Found an Old Bitcoin Wallet? You May Still Be Eligible for ECX

Many Bitcoin holders rediscover old wallets months or even years later.

If your wallet held Bitcoin at the official ECX snapshot, you may still be eligible to claim ECX. The first step is simply checking your Bitcoin address using the official ECX Claim Checker.

Old Wallets Can Still Be Valuable

It's surprisingly common for people to rediscover old Bitcoin wallets.

Perhaps you found:

  • an old laptop;
  • a forgotten hardware wallet;
  • a paper backup;
  • a Recovery Phrase stored years ago;
  • an archived Bitcoin Core wallet.

If that wallet held Bitcoin at the official ECX snapshot, you may still have the opportunity to claim ECX.

The most important factor is when the Bitcoin was held, not when you found the wallet.

Eligibility Depends on the Snapshot

The ECX distribution is based on the official Bitcoin snapshot.

If your Bitcoin was on an eligible address at the snapshot block, that address may qualify for ECX.

Finding the wallet later does not automatically affect your eligibility.

The snapshot permanently recorded the blockchain at a specific moment in time.

What Counts as an "Old Wallet"?

Any wallet that you controlled at the time of the snapshot may be worth checking.

Examples include:

  • Ledger
  • Trezor
  • Electrum
  • Bitcoin Core
  • Sparrow Wallet

If you still have access to the wallet—or can restore it from a backup—you can check whether its Bitcoin addresses are eligible.

Step 1 — Check Your Bitcoin Address

Start with the ECX Claim Checker.

Enter your public Bitcoin address to see whether it has an ECX allocation.

The checker is read-only and does not require:

  • a Private Key;
  • a Recovery Phrase;
  • a wallet password.

Open ECX Claim Checker →

Step 2 — Confirm Your Allocation

If the address is eligible, the Claim Checker will display your ECX allocation.

At this point, you can review the claim instructions and decide when you're ready to continue.

There is no need to rush.

Step 3 — Complete Your Claim

When you're ready, use the Official ECX Claim Tool.

Depending on your wallet, you can verify ownership using:

  • Private Key Mode, or
  • Recovery Phrase Mode.

You'll also need an ECX receiving address where your claimed coins will be sent.

Open Claim Tool →

I Haven't Opened This Wallet in Years. Is That a Problem?

Not necessarily.

Many users discover old wallets long after the snapshot.

If you can safely restore access to the wallet and it held eligible Bitcoin at the snapshot, you can still verify your allocation and follow the official claim process.

Before restoring any wallet:

  • make sure you understand which wallet software or device it belongs to;
  • use official wallet software whenever possible;
  • ensure your backups are complete before making changes.
  • Keep Your Wallet Secure

Old wallets often contain valuable assets.

Before attempting to claim ECX:

  • verify that you're using the official Claim eCash website;
  • never enter your Recovery Phrase into an eligibility checker;
  • never share your Private Key with anyone;
  • keep your wallet backups offline and secure.

Taking a few extra minutes to verify each step can help protect both your Bitcoin and your ECX claim.
